A suitable salary depends on the work, your experience, the city, hours and the full offer. A single national average cannot tell a new graduate what an accountant in Tripoli or an engineer in Misrata should accept. Start with comparable vacancies and the costs and responsibilities of the actual role.
What jobs.ly salary figures can tell you
The salary guide summarizes eligible job adverts added to jobs.ly during the previous 365 days. It uses monthly salaries stated in LYD, taking the midpoint when an advert gives a range. The median is the middle value; the displayed lower and upper figures describe the middle half of those advertised values. Figures are rounded to the nearest 50 LYD.
A group needs at least 5 eligible adverts before a figure appears. That threshold avoids displaying a figure based on just one or two posts; it does not make the sample representative of all workers. Closed adverts can contribute; removed or held-for-review adverts and adverts from suspended employers do not. The period follows when the advert was added to jobs.ly, which may differ from its original publication elsewhere.
These are advertised salaries, not verified pay received by employees. Broad fields can combine occupations and experience levels. Do not relabel a field's figure as a fresh-graduate salary, a legal minimum or a guaranteed offer. If the page says there is insufficient data, keep that uncertainty visible instead of filling the gap with a guessed range.
Compare the whole offer
Item to confirm | Question to ask |
|---|---|
Fixed pay | Is the amount monthly, in which currency, and before or after deductions? |
Variable pay | Is the bonus guaranteed or conditional? What determines payment? |
Working time | What are the working days, shifts and arrangements for additional hours? |
Location | Which site will I attend, and are travel or accommodation covered? |
Benefits and development | What training, leave and other benefits are documented? |
Payment | What is the agreed payment date and method? |
For illustration only, an offer of 2,000 LYD plus a possible 500 LYD bonus does not guarantee 2,500 LYD. Compare the guaranteed amount separately from the conditional amount. This arithmetic example is not a Libyan salary benchmark.
Prepare a specific conversation
Collect recent adverts with similar duties and seniority, noting the source, date, city and pay period. Compare Tripoli, Benghazi or Misrata separately where enough genuinely comparable adverts exist. A different city alone does not justify a fixed percentage increase.
Write down the responsibilities you can already handle and the evidence you can discuss. Then ask: “Given the reporting duties and my experience with [relevant task], could we discuss a monthly salary of [amount]? Could you also confirm the working hours and benefits?” Replace the brackets with accurate details; do not invent another offer to create pressure.
A graduate can discuss a defined training plan and a dated salary review alongside pay. A review date is an opportunity to discuss performance, not a promised increase unless that increase is explicitly agreed. Ask for the final offer and changes in writing before deciding.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good salary for a fresh graduate in Libya?
There is no supported single figure in this guide. Match the role, city and experience level, check current evidence, and compare the full terms. Keep a personal budget separate from a claim about the market.
Should I disclose my lowest acceptable figure immediately?
First clarify the duties and ask about the employer's budget. You can give a considered expectation when enough details are available. Your private minimum helps you decide; it is not evidence of what others earn.
Can an advertised range prove an offer is lawful?
No. For minimum pay, deductions or contract rights, confirm the applicable current rules with a qualified Libyan adviser. A salary dataset cannot establish legal compliance.
